Review of M (1931) by Matthew L — 06 May 2008
Wow, I was so blown away by this film, which is completely surprising considering how the first time I tried to watch it, I couldn't even finish it. When you are watching this it seems like the film is going no where.
You don't know why you are being shown all this stuff. But it does build into something and really is a great film. The shots are so stark in this. I dunno if it's the black and white or what, but Fritz Lang really has a way of creating a dark world and getting all these images that imply things but don't show you directly.
Don't be put off by the beginning. The plot really becomes very intriguing and despite it's pace, it feels as though it moves very quickly. I will never forget the final scene of this film. It is so perfect and really completes this masterpiece.
