Review of M (1931) by Cole B — 31 Dec 2008
Lang's "Metropolis" may have been more visually gripping, but "M" is masterpiece of story, social commentary and cinematic construction. The juxtaposition of the criminals and the police and the question of morals is brilliantly done.
Lang's grasp of the moving camera is superb, and his use of sound and lack thereof often creates some chilling moments. All in all, this is brilliant piece work, at one being thrilling, thought-provoking and visually arresting.
