Review of M (1931) by Alex F — 23 Feb 2014
It starts with children singing "You just wait, it won't be long. The Man in Black will soon be here with his cleaver's blade. So true, he'll make mincemeat out of you" That just sets the scene for you.
A true visual feast with a social commentary way ahead of its time. Banned by the Nazis for showing sympathy towards a child murderer and implied paedophile. A topic that remains totally relevant and still controversial today.
This is what Fritz Lang was up to in 1931. Technically, a masterpiece and psychologically, an unforgettable film.
