Review of Lymelife (2008) by Jeremy R — 26 May 2009
A movie that's been done tons of times before yet manages to do it better. A cultural study of early 80's suburbia that thankfully restricts itself to two families and doesn't profess to represent an era, and a semi-autobiography that thankfully doesn't act as if the filmmakers' lives are important enough to share with audiences.
The Martini brothers simply concentrated on making a great film from what they knew, and that's exactly what they ended up with. Sharply written and excellently acted, "Lymelife" is one of the best of 2009.
