Review of Lymelife (2008) by Natasha L — 15 Nov 2009
There is something very special about this film. There are the mistakes of novice filmmakers, but there is a feeling of certain greatness to come. Martini has a tendency to rely upon music in moments in which I am not sure he was able to capture the full emotion needed with simple camera work. The script could have been revised or perhaps delivered in different ways to add something to the overall performance. There are moment in the film that seem stressed or forced. The story is told in a very second golden age manor. Even with these thing playing against it, it still has something great to it. Within the next 20 years, Derick Martini will make at least one of the finest films we have seen in quiet some time. You can quote me on that.
P.S. If any of you do review this film, please don't take compare it to American Beauty. This comparison is foolish and equivalent of an elementary schooler's criticism.
