Review of Lymelife (2008) by Steve B — 09 Mar 2010
:fresh: Ok, let's be real...everyone's a critic. But there's no denying the sheer force of this film. It is as powerful as it is funny striking a delicate balance of humor and drama. By far the best film of 09 if you have any taste.
22 day shoot, 1.5 million dollars? My jaw dropped when I researched it after seeing it. This film rocks on every level: acting, writing, directing, cinematography...and on and on. I saw it twice in one week and was just as compelled the second time.
Emma Roberts, Timothy Hutton and Rory Culkin are hypnotic. Alec Baldwin has his best role since...EVER. And who the hell know Jill Hennesy could act, no less play a complex character with gusto? The sin here is that it is with a small distribution company who has no clue what they have on their hands.
Shame on the filmmakers for trying out a new distro company on such an important film. They will be sorry when award time comes around and it is forgotten. And that is a real shame.
