Review of Lust, Caution (2007) by Denise H — 29 Sep 2010
Tang Wei is superb in this movie. From an innocent girl to a hardened spy who does whatever it takes to fight the evil invaders even if it means she loses her heart along the way.
Very explicit love scenes and one brutal rape scene so it is NOT a movie for viewing around children.
The intrigue was gritty and frightening. The "on the spot" ability of the female spy to adjust to any situation, any discussion was amazing. This lady was not just reading her lines from a play script.
And the nuanced way that she worked her way down into her opponent's mind and heart was very well done.
Wish this had been done in English (reading subtitles pulls the movie down IMHO). Other than that, I gave it 4 stars for realism, acting abilities, and suspense.
