Review of Lust, Caution (2007) by Edg. — 06 Oct 2007
[***SPOILERS***] Wait - so he beats her, anally rapes her, then gives her a diamond ring, and that's why she falls in love with him? Enough to rat out her friends, getting them and herself killed in the process? The cinematography was gorgeous, the production design flawless, and the acting usually superb, but - maybe I'm missing the boat because I don't find sadism erotic and I don't think a gift of expensive jewelry is a reason for loving someone, but her motivation eluded me.
Maybe without the initial rape scene I could have believed that the sex was just too hot for her not to succumb, but I found the idea of a woman falling in love with her rapist revolting.
