Review of Lumière & Company (1995) by River W — 29 Sep 2009
Jesus enough with the Lynch worship! I like him too, but I watched this for all the directors! I was not let down, this was an interesting look at 40 current directing legends each creating their own 52 second clip with the famous Lumiere camera.
There were some very cerebral shorts, some "pointless", some visually stunning, and some wacky. It felt very special to see these directors humbled and intrigued by this relic of film. To see their answers to such questions as "Is Cinema Mortal?".
To see how they inject modernism into what anyone would take as a vintage film. This is worth a watch.
