Review of Lucky Number Slevin (2006) by Boris V — 19 Jul 2010
When I saw the first hour of this movie I thought: why is everybody so negative about it? But as you get more and more in the plot you realise it. It isn't an authentic movie: it copies a style and it indeed tries too hard to be like a Tarantino or a Guy Richie movie.
Another movie which tried this (but more succesful) was the movie 'Thursday'. If I compare this to thursday I notice something. Thursday is a violent movie but the maincharacter, our 'hero', doesn't use any: he is against it. Our dear Slevin is a real bad ass motherfucker on the other hand: violence seems alright in this movie.
The more I think about that, the more I dislike this movie. The story is too far fetched to be believed but tries to be too serious. It starts off funny and that's the way the whole movie should've been instead of trying to surprise with dizzying plottwist. Keep it real!
