Review of Lucky Number Slevin (2006) by Howie V — 05 Feb 2011
You hear the one about Lucky Number Slevin? So a Rabbi/mobster, a lame-race horse, and a fairy walk into a bar.... Love how they combined the the opening and title sequences...and a great sequence it was. They let you know from the get-go that you're in for something a bit different. The writing is very "Who's on first?" In fact, the entire movie is very "Who's on first?" Having Josh Hartnett play all of Act I in a towel was an interesting choice but Lucy Liu as a neighbor was even more interesting. Never forget to give the guys something to look at. Clever. I think "Slevin" might have been the one good thing "Mr. Goodkat" ever did - it's almost charming. Bruce Willis was wrong for the part; akin to watching Micheal Jordan play two square. On the hole this is a very fun movie. It's all in the music. Thumb up!
"This is the Kansas City Shuffle. They look left. You go right." - Mr. Goodkat.
