Review of Lucky Number Slevin (2006) by Peter N — 04 Aug 2012
An extremely stylized, quirky action flick, Lucky # Slevin has its moments, but fails to live up to the Pulp Fiction-esque films it tries so hard to emulate. The film's saving grace is the participation of Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley, two film legends whose scene together is the highlight of an otherwise average picture.
I have always felt like Josh Hartnett lacks the ability to carry a film on his own, and he seems too calm and collected to fit in with such outrageous characters. The film is stylish and there are enough plot developments to keep things interesting, but the whole thing feels like that short loud kid who tries to fit in with the popular crowd.
No matter how hard it tries, this movie can't help but come across as a little bit too much.
