I felt Luca was a good movie that Pixar has put out that isn't is a simple premise with likable characters, I feel that Luca delivers in that department. The premise is just two young sea monster boys want to get a Vespa to go anywhere they want and have to win a race to win the money to pay for it, its not complex or deep in any way, it a coming of age story meant to tug on your heartstrings, the two boys are Luca who is skittish and is afraid of taking risks, and Alberto who is supposedly fearless and the two meet and become fast friends.

The two decide they want a Vespa to go anywhere they want. It's a realistic take on what two boys would be like going out into actual society where they are fish out of the water, in this case, the two are literally two fish out of the water and they don't know how human society functions.

Luca discovers that he likes human society better and wants to experience more of what it has to offer in particular he wants to go to school to learn about it. By the end, after the two boys meet a friend named Julia and the three of them win the big race at the climax and win the money to buy a Vespa, Alberto sells the Vespa to pay for a train ticket that Luca can use to go to school.

There is a subplot where Lucas parents are looking for him in society and as adults, they know a bit more about human society but not quite enough to allow them to blend in, for a while they are trying to get a bunch of kids wet so they can figure out which kid is theirs, and its fun to watch a group of adults getting kids wet for what would look like was no reason from another perspective.

Overall I enjoyed Luca for being a simple coming-of-age story without being anything super deep that made me question the way I was living my life.
