Review of Luca (2021) by Spacewhales — 19 Jun 2021
Meandering story aside, this is a fantastic slice-of-life/coming-of-age fantasy that soars because of the strength of the central friendship and theme. I loved Soul, but Luca resonated with me more. There are several excellently directed slapstick comedy moments as well as heart wrenching twists that really pulled me in.
I don’t think this will stand tall among talks of Pixar’s absolute masterpieces, but Luca struck a personal enough chord with me that it’s among my favorite of their films. Beautiful and lovely.
