Review of Loving Vincent (2017) by Susan K — 11 Oct 2017
The critics got it right. This called an "animation" but really its something different visually. Its almost psychedelic with the way the images move and blend the colors. Sometimes the characters seem real at times.
All of the visuals mimic Van Gough's impressionistic style and the characters are taken from his paintings using actors with some sort of animation filter. I have never seen anything like this and enjoyed it.
The point of the movies is to tell the story primarily about Van Gough's latter years and suggests an interesting alternative to the circumstances of his death and sheds light on and questions the extent of his mental illness.
The whole story and how and who tells it is very clever and captivating. I highly recommend this movie.
