Review of Loving Vincent (2017) by Wayne K — 25 Feb 2018
A labour of love in the best possible sense, Loving Vincent is a visual wonder, with a huge team of dedicated artists beautifully recreating Vincent Van Gogh's unique aesthetic in order to tell the story of his tragic and still enigmatic demise.
The way that scenes blend into each other and how the dissolves into flashback drain the screen of almost all colour is just fantastic to behold. The story is engaging, if unremarkable, and the actors provide not only their voices but also their likeness, making it seem like their adventure is taking place on a living canvas.
It might not receive the praise it so deserves, since CGI is king of the hill when it comes to animated pictures, but for those who like their movies modern but with a splash of classic, Loving Vincent is a show you won't soon forget.
