Review of Loving (2016) by John M — 27 Nov 2016
It's very traditional in some sense but Jeff Nichols doesn't bog down the film with technical details like the third act being courtroom scenes as a lot of directors would do in this type of film.
Instead, it's about the humanity of the married couple and though few words are spoken, I think the audience is really able to feel the connection these people have that is as basic as any other fundamental marriage.
A lot of it is due to the incredibly focused and wonderful work by Edgerton and Negga who are phenomenal and Jeff Nichols ability to give his the audience the bare minimal details in the story in order to focus on the emotions which he has done in all his films.
