Pacing is slow, so you should expect that. Star-making for Ruth Negga; Edgerton's already a star. I don't know if I've ever seen an 'issue' movie filmed with such unaffected tenderness. Almost shockingly beautiful.
The subject matter is still important. A homerun for director Nichols.
