Review of Loving (2016) by Ken S — 24 Nov 2016
Jeff Nichols is a top notch filmmaker. Since he debuted as a filmmaker in the last 10 years, he has yet to make a bad film. His latest, and second this year after the great "Midnight Special," is a wonderfully made bio-pic about the interracial couple of Richard and Mildred Loving, whose case eventually (after many years) went to the Supreme Court and was a landmark case for interracial marriage.
The movie doesn't actually focus much on the courtroom, but on the people. It isn't melodramatic ether, which makes it all the more entertaining. You just get to know these two people who love each other and want to just mind their business and have a family, and face huge odds against that simple dream.
Nichols has definitely become one of my favorite filmmakers working today.
