Review of Lovelace (2013) by Dan F — 11 Aug 2013
Interesting story and some good performances. However, it all feels very incomplete and afraid to push the limits. There are a few scenes that hold an emotional punch, but overall, it plays it safe. I can not help but wonder if Lohan would have taken things further with her original intended performance of the title character.
Seyfried does well but I can not see past her more "pure" side... giving the film an installed sympathy that the viewer never quite has to explore for themselves. Sharon Stone, although limited in her role does well enough that I wish there were more of her in this.
In the end, this all feels like a watered down biopic that could have been much deeper than what we end up with.... Not very memorable as it fails to touch upon anything "new" or show it in a fashion grim enough to leave a mark.
