Review of Lovelace (2013) by Matthew H — 05 Sep 2013
Boogie Nights this is not, but this pornographic biopic does succeed well enough in its telling of 'Deep Throat''s star Linda Lovelace and her unique talents she introduced into the industry arguably changing it forever.
With an actress as beautiful as Amanda Seyfried starring in an awesomely nude performance in all senses, its a great watch. She pulls off the stars story with an on screen presence usually expected of more seasoned actors.
Sharon 'leg spreader' Stone and the Terminator-fucker-upper do an decent job as Linda's parents but unfortunately the rest of the cast barely holds it together and come across as almost caricatures of people from the time.
This effect causes the movie to clash with itself and its not long before your counting the minutes before this film is finished. Luckily its only 90 minutes. I feel this material could have been much better suited to more talented directing/acting (outside the lead role).
The story gets expectedly dark as Linda's husband and manager Chuck gets abusive and all the glamour and partying takes a backseat to his aggression. Linda is your typical battered woman and you find yourself frustrated with her reluctance to leave him.
Finally she does and finally the movie ends.
