Review of Love, Simon (2018) by Alan R — 13 Apr 2018
This is a very likable, idealized, sanitized, unrealistic turn on the difficulties faced by gay teens. Nick Robinson, as the lead, is terrific and makes the movie work, with a little help from his friends.
The kids are more than alright. Tony Hale, who plays a VEEP version of a vice principal and Natasha Rothwell, as the director of the school play who is otherwise too cool for school are also quite entertaining, if not caricatures of school personnel that no one has ever seen in a real school.
Don't expect reality, but enjoy it for it's warmth and humor, a decent soundtrack, and a nice message. How did Disney let this one get away?
