Review of Love, Simon (2018) by Mike S — 29 May 2018
What more can be said about the never ending torture that are teen-rom-coms? Even though this one has a slightly better chance of engaging new generations, switching the lead with a boy in search of, well, a boy. As a gay male in my twenties, I appreciate the importance of having a gay lead in what should have been a critical and spectatorial success, don't get me wrong. But how can I appreciate another movie that not only does not rappresent any sort of reality, but also expect the viewer to believe that love, the acceptance of new found sexuality and most of all friendship can be so reductive?
It's disappointing to say the least that movies, stil nowadays, have to be so bad thought, bad written and bed executed. Everyone loves a good, light and funny romantic comedy. I mean, we all saw what the 00s gave birth to. But is it okay to still satisfy with just the average? Also someone please wash Simon's hair.
