Review of Love, Simon (2018) by Gary W — 13 Apr 2018
If I only had one genre of film to watch exclusively, it would be the "teen angst" movie. My teen years were hard as I struggled through addiction, confusion and denial of self. It is this type of struggle that makes this movie very good. You could replace gay with, fat, stupid, ugly, poor, frightened, bullied or any number of terms that teen see themselves as and eventually overcome. Many never recover fully but most make it to the light that exposes their fears as needless and self directed. Nick Robinson was excellent as Simon as were his parents and friends. It just needed a bit more kick.
Poignant and truthful, this should be required viewing for prospective parents.
