Review of Love, Simon (2018) by Richard R — 31 May 2018
Just saw Love, Simon today. Took my almost 80 y/o Mom to see it with me. I don't go in for the fancy words the critics and some audience members like. I can say, it was one of the most beautiful movies of any type I had seen a long time.
Being gay the subject matter was important to me and I remember feeling some of those very same feelings that Simon and Blue were feeling. I am not sure when the book was written and if I had one and only one negative thing to say about it, it would be that the whole bully-blackmail thing didn't ring as true now as it might have twenty years ago.
Not that there isn't angst among young gays now but not nearly what there was in ages past. Nick Robinson is already a very good actor, with maturity I think he will be a great one. Go see it for a heartfelt coming of age, coming out and romantic film.
Bring a tissue, there weren't many dry eyes in the theater. It has now far surpassed many films that the so-called critics loved and I thought were only mediocre. Hope anyone that sees it finds it just as beautiful as I did.
