It's kind of cute and has moments of humour (that work) but it just doesn't quite manage to pull it off. While the characters are likable, they're also sort of annoying, or maybe that's just the story.
.. Having not read the book, I can't comment if it's better or worse, but I can say that it's not a total write-off. It's one of those movies you chuck on when your partner is away and you just want something to watch on TV that will keep you engaged for a couple hours.
