The film Love, Rosie directed by Christian Ditter can be categorized in a couple of different genres. First thing to note is that it is set mostly in England with british characters, making it somewhat of a "foreign" film, or, at least, not american. This film was based on the novel Where Rainbows End by Cecelia Ahern, putting it into the adaptation genre as well. It also plays with time in that it spans a number of years following two people: Rosie and Alex, beginning in their last year of high school and going all the way until they are about thirty. The more prominent genres this title fits into are the friends who become lovers trope and the pregnancy trope, as the plot includes both narratives. With regards to these two sub-categories of Romcom, other films this movie could be related to would be When Harry Met Sally, as it plays with a longer time span and friendship turned into love. It could also be categorized with Juno, as it deals with teen pregnancy and, again, good friendships from high school turned into romances.

What the film lacks in quality of writing it makes up for in compelling acting. Plus there is the added element of the british accent which elevates the dialogue considerably. The picture itself is colorful and clear and bright, lots of pretty lighting and warm spaces. The soundtrack has a nice flow and utilizes instrumentals as well as popular songs.

Lily Collins plays Rosie, a clever, young, british woman, however Collins is american. So it is interesting how she was chosen to play the role. Though not british, her performance is still quite believable.

The plot of this film takes on the issue of teen pregnancy and how challenging it is to take care of a child with no college education and still make money. It works with education and class issues that are relevant to today's society.

I think that this movie is highly underrated, especially because of the compelling acting and the stars who are in this movie. Films that utilize the tropes of friends who become lovers is a satisfying genre and I think this one finds its own unique story while still producing the heart-warming content romcom lovers are looking for.
