Review of Love Ranch (2010) by Pheasant W — 14 Jan 2011
I thought this movie was realistic, filled with honest human emotion and truly enjoyable. I don't understand the 12%. I don't think it was boring at all. Helen Mirren played the madam of the brothel perfectly.
I find the subject of legalized brothels very fascinating though. So perhaps I was more prone to like this film. Sure the ending wasn't what I wanted it to be, but it was still pretty good I thought.
This movie was based on actual events and I bet it would have been quite an experience dealing with those political issues back in the 70s. I definitely thought this movie was fresh. Kept me entertained.
I think there could be a whole lot more movies, including documentaries about prostitution, the legalized brothels and just the sex workers in general. I know there are a lot of underage and bad things that happen, and I am not condoning that.
Just saying.
