I personally think this is one of Masaki Kobayashi's masterpiece films. Intriguing, potent and memorable. A film that is set in a time where loyalty and servitude to one's daimyo (lord) is key.
A samurai (Toshiro Mifune) leader of a clan dares to challenge the old way of things when his daimyo is highly unreasonable with his son's wedding arrangement. Realistic and dramatic performances.
Personally one of my favorite films ever. I highly recommend to any Japanese film lovers.
