Review of Love Me Tonight (1932) by Henry G — 15 Jun 2007
Hard to beat. Chevalier at his most exaggeratedly French, he really pulls out all the stops short of running around waving a baguette and singing the Marsaillaise. Really splendidly done, some of the best musical numbers ever put on film.
A deadly combination of Lubitsch and Clair with a Rogers and Hart score nothing short of magnificent ('I'd rather throw a bomb in her than have her wed a commoner!'). Not to mention Myrna Loy as a nymphomaniac and an unusually gifted stag that, in my opinion, delivered the best performance of the year.
It's really tops.
