Both Doris Day (yes, she CAN actually act; who ever thought of putting her in these silly movies in the late 50's- and 60's should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves) and James Cagney on top of their game.
Doris as Ruth Etting, in a wonderfully moving and heartfelt tragic role; a character she seems to be able to identify with. Gripping stuff.
