Doris Day really shines in this movie, as she gives a harder edge portrayal of singer/actress Ruth Etting. Normally known for her sunny, happy go-lucky roles, Day's fans saw a very complex side to her acting and singing abilities.
The music in this movie is outstanding and both Day and Cagney are brilliant.
