Review of Love Me No More (2008) by Laurent P — 02 Jan 2009
I admit it. I feel a bit superior when I watch French movies, like I have this secret super power that I choose to use sometimes. Yes, yes, I too enjoyed Pulp Fiction and Raiders of the Lost Ark. But when I so desire, I can enjoy La V©rit© si je ments (1 et 2!) or C.R.A.Z.Y.
Following yesterday's movie Man On Wire--which is at least half French--today we watched Deux jours a tuer, which is translated to Love Me No More but which I think should have been translated literally to Two Days to Kill.
It's a story about a BMW-driving ad-man who has a hot wife, two lovely kids, and a nice home. Then one Friday, he pisses off his big client at work, his wife and his kids at home, and his friends at a train-wreck of a dinner party. Then he leaves home, somewhat tortured, after having mortally wounded all his relationships.
The movie is surprisingly short. At just 80 minutes, it ends suddenly and mercifully. There wasn't more to say, do or show. There are answers and closure.
