Review of Love Is Strange (2014) by Tanmart S — 21 Sep 2014
The premise of this movie naturally could have been a comedy but the filmmakers went the other way and turned it into an incredibly somber movie with a story that plods on at a slow pace. Lithgow and Molina are well-cast as the film's two main characters and they really do have a good chemistry together.
There are a couple red herrings tossed throughout the story that don't really go anywhere and the resolution is flat-out preposterous. Some may scoff at the R-rating this film received even though there really isn't any explicit content but I think it's appropriate because the film is clearly intended for older and more mature audiences that mostly favor quiet naturalistic dramas that take their time and don't rely on gimmicks.
