Review of Love Is Strange (2014) by Clem A — 04 Oct 2014
For nearly forty years, George (played by Emmy Award nominee Alfred Molina), a Catholic school music teacher & his partner, Ben (played by Academy Award nominee, Golden Globe & Emmy Award winner John Lithgow), a painter, have been together living in their New York City apartment.
When it becomes legal for gay couples to get married, Ben & George take the opportunity to tie the knot with all their friends & family in attendance. When the diocese of the school where George teaches learns about the wedding, he unceremoniously fires George forcing George & Ben to sell their apartment and find cheaper accommodations.
During their search for a new apartment, the two need to separate. George moves in with his neighbors, two gay police officers (played by Manny Perez & Cheyenne Jackson). Ben is living with his nephew, Elliot (played by Darren E.
Burrows), his author wife, Kate (played by Academy Award winner & Golden Globe Award nominee Marisa Tomei) & their son, Joey (played by Charlie Tahan). Each day & night that George & Ben arenâ??t together, the lonelier they become and the harder it is for those they are living with.
Ira Sachs directs from a screenplay that he co-wrote with Mauricio Zacharias. The performances from the cast were very well done. John Lithgow & Alfred Molina were very believable as Ben & George who have been together for a long time.
They both played their roles with heart. SEE THIS FILM.
