A bittersweet and engaging tale about the throes of an elderly gay couple getting married, and the social prejudice and unjust retrenchment that follow. The circumstances are pretty bleak from the onset, but the light comedic touches, likeable motley of characters and their generosity, kindness and unwavering love make this an audience-pleasing work.

Kudos to director Ira Sachs for handling the couple's plights sensitively and maturedly, and for consciously avoiding melodrama, histrionics and cliches that've plagued other gay flicks (i.e. promiscuous protagonists and gratuitous sex). What transpires is a dignified and moving portrait of the committed love and graceful aging of two brave souls that could be easily transposed on a straight relationship.

My only gripe - the insipid title.
