Review of Love Is All You Need (2012) by Peter C — 07 May 2013
Love Is All You Need ... as is good casting, the lack of which prevents what is a reasonably good film from being excellent.
Plot first...
Boy is due to marry girl.
Girl's dad runs off with secretary.
Secretary hits on girl's brother.
Girl's brother hits dad.
Dad crawls back to wife.
Wife falls for future in-law.
Future in-laws sister hits on future in-law.
Future in-law's son falls for best friend.
Everyone falls out.
And out of the madness springs true love.
So, not so much a love triangle. More like a love tetrahedron.
Regarding the casting...
Pierce Brosnan has a CV longer than King Dong's dangly bits.
He is handsome, charming, funny and sweet.
However, he has the facial expressions of Mount Rushmore: lacking subtlety and vulnerability.
Which is exactly what his character needs.
And what prevents this reasonably good film from being excellent.
Still... the lead actress, Danish star Trine Dryholm, is perfectly cast and exceptional.
Funny, vulnerable, care-free, strong, sassy, likeable, beautiful.
Well worth the admission price alone.
Overall... a feel good, at times moving, romantic comedy set in the lush Mediterranean.
Verdict... 3 out of 5, verging on 4.
