Review of Love in the Time of Cholera (2007) by Estelle B — 05 Oct 2008
I've read Garcia Marquez, but not this novel, even I can say this film is so far from his conception and the essences of his lines. Is a movie without soul, without that magic realism present on his words.
Technically is a good film: beautiful photography, exquisite art and costumes design, and Cartagena is awesome, but loses prominence and I feel it lacks the magic and reality features of this city. The main performances are superficial and sometimes overact, rescue brief share of the local cast and the presence of two international actors like Benjamin Bratt and Liev Shcreiber.
Mike Newell is lost in the depth of this novel and it is impossible to leave either escaped, his directing is parc, tedious and lacking in pace. And the script is absolutely boring. I was expecting more from this film, but.
