Review of Love in the Time of Cholera (2007) by Seda E — 27 Jul 2009
Apalling telenovela adaptation of this great work. None of the subtlety and beautiful lyricism of the novel makes it anywhere near this hack job. I have not seen close-ups, editing and outright hamminess like this since the spaghetti westerns of the 70's. Some of the seduction scenes are outright funny..and not in a good way. Despite a decent cast everyone gives their worst performance in quite a few outings. Oh and I must mention the aging makeup which looks like some amateur drama company put it together.
The jungle looks nice when they go to big master shots.....
