Review of Love in the Time of Cholera (2007) by Nathalie D — 31 Aug 2009
I can understand how people can jump to love to hate it, but then again most of these people have not read Gabriel Garcia Marquez, who is easy to hate himself. GGM has a very unique literary style, known as magical realism, meaning it seems real but his stories are all totally full of shit and supposed to be non-human human.
The film, doing its best to re-create this is not a typical movie in any way and its romantics are often times totally over the top and absurd. After a while, especially after laughing at such bits, I realized that it must certainly be a joke.
so after I took the movie for a joke, I grew to enjoy it.
