Review of Love in the Time of Cholera (2007) by Stacy B — 05 Jan 2012
While a unique and beautiful concept in theory, I felt this was a poor execution of what could have been something truly emotional and inspiring. Instead, I felt I was being handed the movie with no discernible rhyme or reason to it.
I was basically being told how I should feel instead of actually experiencing it for myself. And in the few scenes I actually felt myself growing attached, something ridiculous would come along and completely ratchet me out of it.
Fortunately, Javier Bardem's performance gave me something to keep watching for. There's no doubt he is a terrific talent, but here he completely stands alone by being the only memorable element in a movie I could do well to forget.
