Review of Love Happens (2009) by Nargis K — 25 Apr 2010
This movie is 100% chick-flick certified. I kind of suspected that, but didn't know how heavily chick-flick it really was. My husband really wasn't a fan of the movie....I of course told him that he doesn't have a heart---but that's between us.
Anyway, about the movie- I actually enjoyed this movie a lot. It wasn't over the top, it wasn't really anything special, but I was invested in both Jennifer Aniston and Aaron Eckhart's characters.
Burke's wife died in an accident 3 years ago. To cope, he wrote a book about his experience and the ways he used to continue living. His friend happened to pass along his pages to a publisher and next thing, his book is published and he runs seminars promoting his methods.
A LOT of this movie has to do with him still confronting his feelings about the passing of his wife---basically, he has to come to terms and let go before he can really move forward with his life. And Eloise is the person that is there to help him. He's never really FORCED into dealing with things, but see, the movie takes us back to Seattle, the city where he used to live and where his wife died.
The only thing I didn't really like was the prepackaged and marketing of "death and grieving"....with all the stats and products introduced to be there for the person. That whole thing was never really resolved...
Anyway, if you're looking for a good Chick-Flick, this one is worth the viewing---be warned though---don't have your husband, boyfriend, guy friend sit through it....They might not feel the same way you do about it.
