Review of Love & Other Drugs (2010) by Michael V — 14 Nov 2011
Anne Hathaway is naked a lot in this. Do you really need another reason to see this?
Ok you don't need another reason but there are other reasons. First off is that this is an interesting project given the director. Usually he puts out intelligent action epics based around class or social struggle. This time around you get probably one of the most realistic chick flick movies out there. And oddly enough it's really more for us guys being that 95% of the time the story is focused on him. And the trailer really does suggest otherwise that this will be your typical rom-com. But Jake's character is real. He could be your best friend, your brother or hell even you. Anne Hathaway is charming playing a girl who everybody knows exists out there too. Emotionally distant. Fearing the future and attachments. Weather if debilitating disease is the reason or not. Either way everybody can connect to these two. And thatâ(TM)s what makes this stand out from the usual rom-com trash. This is real. Except for a cliche here and there which is to be expected right up to a highly cliche ending where boy chases girl... professes love to girl in front of a bus full of old people egging them on. Supporting cast is great but under used. I love Judy Greer. I think she is hot and talented and here she is restrained. As is Hank Azaria. Olver Plattis a joy to watch though. All in all this is a guy friendly rom-com with nakedness for both parties to enjoy.
