Review of Love & Friendship (2016) by Robby K — 12 Jun 2016
Whit Stillman's newest film is fantastically acted (Kate Beckinsale in particular stands out), beautifully directed, and surprisingly funny. Although it may be geared more towards film lovers rather than the average moviegoer, it immerses you in what actually feels like the late 1700's.
Beckinsale's character is unlike any other that you've seen from this era of history as she obliviously speaks her mind and seemingly manipulates her acquaintances. The dialogue is somewhat hard to follow if you aren't paying close attention, but the actors fly through it so smoothly that it feels almost normal.
This Jane Austen adaptation is one of the best films through the half-year. And we could see this get award recognition when the time comes, especially in the design categories.
