Review of Love & Friendship (2016) by Ian C — 27 Jul 2016
I went to see this with my wife who normally loves period dramas and I assumed she would enjoy it far more than I would. In fact she was far more scathing than me, finding it deadly dull and rather trivial in every way.
The characters were stereotypical, the plot line virtually non-existent and the dialogue, whilst undeniably amusing, very trite at best. The costumes, cinematography and settings were magnificent so there were some aspects we enjoyed but that was nowhere near enough to sustain us for 94 minutes .
Is it any wonder that neither of us have ever heard of this Jane Austen novella!
