Review of Love & Friendship (2016) by Nicole B — 01 Jun 2016
I am a Jane Austen fan. But not a Whit Stillman fan. This movie was a stiff adaptation of Austen's epistolary novel... The letters became dialogue, leaving the non-speaking character to nod a lot. There were unexplained leaps in the plot that were understandable in the novel.
There is no "film" here, only a bunch of scenes shot without enough budget. Great hats, though. And Beckinsale almost saves it.
