Review of Love and Death (2013) by Kevin L — 14 Dec 2012
If one is a fan of Fyodor Dostoevsky and Ingmar Bergman, the two greatest artists of literature and film, and enjoys the Marx Bros. and Buster Keaton style of comedy then "Love and Death" has guaranteed laughs.
Woody Allen takes down two huge artists and turns their dialogue into profound nonsense, takes the seemingly infinite number of characters in a Dostoevsky novel and has a cast of mad morons, and when the Allen character begins to write "The Love Song of J.
Alfred Prufrock" only to toss it away for being "too sentimental" it's hard to remember a moment during the short eighty-five minute running time when a smile's absent.
