Review of Love Affair, or the Case of the Missing Switchboard Operator (1967) by Aaron W — 31 Aug 2010
Mukavejev's film is a story about a young switchboard operator whom falls in love and marries a man, whom is a rat exterminator. While her husband away on business, the young woman becomes lonely eventually succumbing to another man's passes.
This leads to tragedy when her husband returns to find out what happens. This film is about how society regulates sex and romance, mixing our main storyline with interjections from sexologists and criminologists.
Mukavejev's style is present, and its great to see it in his early work.
