Review of Love Actually (2003) by John S — 17 Aug 2013
No doubt that Love Actually is cleverly written- we follow seven or eight (or more, depending on how you want to look at it) couples through heartbreak, troubles, and love through the five weeks leading up to Christmas.
There were also many good elements to this film. I found myself liking Liam Neeson's little pat of the story the best, as his relationship with his stepson left some impression on me that none of the others really did.
Hugh Grant as the prime minister was nice to watch, too. Most of them were good, actually, except for- at least, in my opinion- two of them.
I didn't like the one with Keira Knightley as the wife. I'm fine with her acting, I just didn't like the whole story they set up. And also think we all could have done without Colin Firth's relationship with the Russian girl. I mean, the ending- they barely knew each other, after all.
Bottom Line: Though this movie has its faults, it is a very well done romantic comedy that makes those faults less faulty and even, at least sometimes, fun to watch. And yes, Rowan Atkinson acts like an actual human being (in his own weird way).
