Review of Love Actually (2003) by Campbell P — 22 Dec 2014
Love Actually (actually) surprised me! I found this movie lovely! The whole cast of this movie did a great job being in character and giving these characters a lot of background. The narration by Hugh Grant was very nice and pleasing and really set the mood for the plot of the movie.
I really enjoyed every love story that came along, some better than others though. I loved the relationships with Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, and Liam Neeson's boy. The other ones were very nice too but they weren't nearly as interesting to watch.
You really felt the chemistry between the people in the better love stories and by that you really dug them a lot! Martin Freeman's was nice but didn't have enough background of the characters to keep me interested.
Emma Thompson's was heartbreaking but I really hated her husband in this movie. I didn't find a likable quality in him at all. The one with Keira Knightly was sweet but let's face it, unless you are a swinger you would never do what she did, even in the movies that wouldn't happen.
The one with the two coworkers was frustrating with the whole brother situation but when they were actually in love and together it was very nice. The one where the guy went to America was very funny but I hardly found it to be a love story.
The singer was funny too but I hardly found that to be a love story as well. Overall Love Actually was a very sweet, touching movie that will become a Christmas tradition in the years to come. The ending is very sweet and feel good.
B+.
